Learning Outcomes

Knowledge
By the end of this 2-day practical CPD conference, delegates will have developed a comprehensive understanding of common and complex nail pathologies, including appropriate assessment methods and conservative management options such as nail bracing and cosmetic reconstruction. Delegates will understand the clinical reasoning required to differentiate between conditions suitable for conservative care, cosmetic intervention or onward referral. They will gain knowledge of musculoskeletal assessment principles relevant to lower limb presentations, including biomechanical contributors to dysfunction. Participants will also develop an understanding of chairside orthotic modification principles, the use of silicone putty devices for targeted support, and the physiological effects, clinical indications and contraindications of therapeutic ultrasound and red light therapy.

Skills
Delegates will be able to carry out structured nail and musculoskeletal assessments and apply their findings to practical treatment planning. They will develop hands-on skills in the application of nail bracing techniques and cosmetic nail reconstruction while maintaining patient safety and clinical integrity. Participants will be able to apply functional taping techniques to support, offload or influence movement patterns, modify chairside orthotic devices to meet individual biomechanical needs, and fabricate and apply silicone putty devices for pressure redistribution and targeted support. Delegates will also develop practical skills in the safe and effective application of ultrasound and red light therapy within their scope of practice.

Competence
On completion of the conference, delegates will be competent in integrating conservative nail management, musculoskeletal interventions, orthotic and silicone solutions, and therapeutic modalities into cohesive, patient-centred treatment plans. They will be able to justify their clinical decisions using evidence-based reasoning, monitor treatment outcomes, and adapt management plans as required. Delegates will demonstrate increased confidence in managing a range of nail and MSK conditions, communicating treatment options effectively to patients, and implementing practical techniques that can be immediately transferred into clinical practice while meeting CPD and professional standards.
