About

The College of Foot Health was founded by The Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (IOCP).

With more than 80 years’ of experience in the profession of Chiropody and Podiatry, the IOCP as a leading UK professional body recognises that there is an essential requirement to set a definitive benchmark for training, standards, ethics and continuing professional development for the growing profession of Foot Health Practitioners.

Our training

Foot Health Practitioners (FHPs) are able to treat general conditions that are routinely encountered in everyday life such as the regular care of corns, calluses, dry skin and problem nails for example, as well as basic mechanical problems of the feet.

With the correct training FHPs can usefully accommodate the demand for care arising from the increase in patients with diabetes, obesity and ageing, and also beneficially promote awareness of preventing and treating general foot disorders. They can establish socially valuable, responsible and often very profitable businesses, sometimes as a mature career move or a similar ‘desire for change’.

Accordingly, the theoretical and practical training offered by The College of Foot Health, which is validated by the IOCP and delivered by highly experienced Podiatrists who are registered IOCP tutors, has been designed to meet the above aims completely.

The Institute is adopting the classical distance-learning approach to training as this will give the student the opportunity to study at their own pace. Our courses are also presented in such a way as to allow access to students with or without prior medical knowledge. As you progress, you will quickly start to understand and use what you have learned. As with any educational programme, we would prefer you to be at least 18, or of an age whereby you feel this programme will be of benefit to you and your goals in life.

The course has all the guidance you need and you will be assigned a dedicated tutor and will be able to enter into discussions with other students and professionals via our web forum.

NOTE:

Completion of any training for FHPs does not entitle the individual to use the term Chiropodist and/or Podiatrist. This title is protected and requires a 3 – 4 year degree and registration with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council).

Chiropodists and Podiatrists in the UK are regulated by law. Misconduct, dangerous or unethical actions can result in legal sanctions against them by the Health and Care Professions Council which also regulates their training etc. There is no statutory regulation of training, standards or their professional actions for the growing number of Foot Health Practitioners (FHPs).
